Question Treadmillers! Question!

Do you hold onto the treadmill while you walk?

I can't get past not holding on. I feel like I'm going to fall off, and it drives me nuts!

Anyone out there hold on? I find it doesn't affect me when I walk outside (I'm not trying to grab invisible rails on the sidewalk) but when I'm on the treadmill I feel like I have to make use of my space and touch stuff. *lol*

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

Does Curves have a treadmill? A lot of people hang onto the rails, girl! There's no shame in it! I just know I'd fall off or I freak out and stare at the belt the whole time. I can't watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer when I'm trying not to fall off my treadmill.

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

LOL! I don't now if they have a treadmill. I am going up there in the next day or so to check it out.

Anybody go to Curves? Is it worth my money?

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

Curves does not have a treadmill. I was going to join last year but knew I was wanting to switch jobs so I waited to see where I ended up and I was right.. there is none close to me... and I only get 1/2 hour for lunch now....

I did belong to a regular gym before and thinking of going back... alot people held on there when they walked... some did, some didn't... depends on your workout!

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

I've actually been holding on too but mainly because my mom is moving and decided to get rid of hers, well hers is like brand new and mine was a few years old so I gave mine to my niece and took my moms... well that was a bad deal... my mom's is a piece of crap! It feels like the tread part is slipping off... every once in a while I slip, feels like I stepped on ice. So I hold on for dear life!!!

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

Mine does that sometimes Mary. My DH has to tighten it up for me. That is probably what yours needs.

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

I will ask him when he gets here and let you know. I never have watched him. I think he looked our brand of treadmill up online found the info there. I'm not sure, but I will let you know.

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

I had to hold on for dear life, b/c 1) I felt like I needed to, and 2) the tread would slip.

Once I'd set the incline 1/2 up to the max, though, I didn't have to hold on anymore. Nor did the tread slip.

I sold my treadmill, and the guy and his brother who bought it, used one of my hex wrench thingies to tighten the tread. On mine, it was at the end of the platform, fairly easy access.

Oh, and Cleo!! I watch an episode of Buffy for each elliptical trainer workout I do (and for no special reason except I feel like it, in between!)!! Yeah!!

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

I'm a holder onner too. Just cannot seem to get my balance on the thing. I try to keep my arms 'loose' though, so I'm not having tense arms with the muscles locked.

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

No holding on here. When I used to sprint on the treadmill I would have to hold on while changing the speeds (picture America's Funniest Home Videos) but while walking I try not to hold on. I thought I read somewhere that you don't get quite as good a workout when you hold on. Those little stabilizer muscles don't have anything to do

I haven't read anything, but I know that my lower back and abs did get worked a lot holding on, because I'd end up pushing against the handrails.

Besides, better to hold on than to fall! lol

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

Thanks for all of the majorly awesome responses!

I've read you don't burn as many calories when hanging on. I know if I'm not careful, though, I will seriously fall off the treadmill (because I get spacy and forget what I'm doing). That works my humility muscle. *lol*

But seriously. I know I ought not hold on.

Re: Treadmillers! Question!

My DH doesn't hold on. He gets on there and runs and he scares me to death. I was doing Tae Bo today and I did a kick and went flying across my living room. I wish I had something to hold onto while I am doing that! Bwaaa haaaa haaa!!!
