South Beach Roll Call

Greetings!

I'm just wondering how many people are following the SB plan. Any newbies? Anyone starting up again? Anyone making a switch from another plan?

Please check in and let's give each other some support.

Never wrestle with pigs. You just get dirty and the pigs like it too much.

There's light at the end every tunnel ........ just pray its not a train.

Re: South Beach Roll Call

I am a newbie! Well newbie here. I did SBD before I got pregnant and LOVED it. My Dh and I both plan on starting up slowly (as I am still breastfeeding) and hope to be fully on it around the first of Feb.

I never thought I would be excited to start a diet but I am. DH and I just loved to get in the kitchen and cook together. It really is a lifestyle change. I felt so much better just because I was eating better.

Not sure if this is the place or not but I have a question. What sugar subs. does everyone use? I am not going to be using Splenda this time around because I feel it's not good for me. I prefer something more natural. Any advice?

Thanks! I can't wait to be in full force on this board. It seems everyone gets along wonerfully and always has great ideas/advice!

Hi, Lance's Mommy! It is so nice to see you!!! I think Stevia is a highly-touted sugar substitute, and is preferable (fomr what I've heard) to both aspartame and splenda.

It is so wonderful to have you here!!

Re: South Beach Roll Call

Hello! Welcome!

I was starting to feel lonely in here!

Yes! Stevia is good, but it only takes a little. If you use too much it will taste bitter. A hard lesson I had to learn first hand.

Here's a site that might be helpful. It's about Stevia. I'm sure you can more info on it by doing a Google search.

Thanks for posting.

Re: South Beach Roll Call

I'm a stevia fan myself. Though Piasa's definately right..you just need a little. I've ruined alot of cups of coffee with too much of it. you can also buy it in packets which is easier for sweetening drinks like coffee, though it's got bulking agents so i'd give each pack a carb count of 1. For baking I add a little at a time, and keep tasting it till i think it's right.

I'm not doing southbeach, starting with my atkins 2 week induction this week, but i'll probably end up at my sb/atkins mix (more carbs, less fat) after that. I'll play it by ear.

I do like the principles of south beach, healthwise I think the healthier fats are much better in the long run.

Re: South Beach Roll Call

Hi my name is Marie and I've been on the Atkins diet for 4 years. I started out at 160 and I currently weigh 125. I was loosing my weigh on the Atkins Diet and decided it was time to move on so I'm in the process of switching to the South Beach Diet. I'm on my 4th week. The first 2 weeks I lost 3 pounds. I also work out aggessively 5 days a week. I've been doing that for about 2 or 3 months. I did gain back the 3 pounds the 3rd week. For the past month I haven't gained or lost. My friends tell me they see a difference. Maybe I've lost inches? I am reading the book. The South Beach Diet is alot different than the Atkins Diet. I was worried about gain when I started. I hope you have some advice for me. Thanks, Marie T.

Re: South Beach Roll Call

Hey, Marie! We'll do what we can! I am a person who's read both Atkins and South Beach! Both are pretty similar, so I think you'll be just fine! Aside from switching your fats around and not climbing the Atkins rungs, I think that you'll really enjoy the greater freedom that tends to come with South Beach, especially if you felt bored with Atkins!

Welcome Aboard!

Re: South Beach Roll Call

Welcome Deborah!

You might notice that this thread is kind of old and some of the people who posted in it have moved on. I'm really hoping to get some more Beach Lovers or potential SB dieters to join us though. But stick with me and I'll try to help you through this.

I did Atkins for awhile. The plan didn't fail me. Unfortunately though ...... I failed the plan. As a result of cheating too much my cholesterol went wacky and I began to worry about what all of it was doing to my health. So I decided to make a change and I couldn't be happier about it!
