    Egg question!

    Hey!
I know that this is addressed in the book, but I was just wondering...I'm eating around 3-6 eggs everyday...are you guys SURE that Im' not going to experience a huge spike in cholesterol (or any other health risks, for that matter) if I stick to induction?
Please help, I'm really skeptical of this egg business...but they're just so easy!

    Re: Egg question!

I'm replying on the fly here, so forgive me for not being more specific.

I beleive it's in DANDR where Dr. A discusses that dietary cholesterol, in and of itself, doesn't necessarily raise our cholestoral levels. The liver puts out cholestorl, and if you're taking in what you need, it doesn't do it, or not as much.

Also, I want to say that insulin or blood sugar was somehow implicated in the production/retention of cholesterol, but you'll have to check that book.

I can tell you that whenever I've done Atkins, eggs were a total mainstay of my diet. And my cholesterol went down. My doc couldn't believe it when I told her I was eating about 18-20 eggs per week, or more if I'd want to.

    Yes, they are SUPER convenient!

Eggs have gotten a bad rap in the past. Everything I've read says that eggs will improve your cholesterol.

    Re: Egg question!

I agree with what's been posted here. I eat 4-6 eggs per day and have actually found my health has improved immeasurably.... not to mention that eggs pack a huge punch for a small food, hungerwise.

    Re: Egg question!

A rise in cholesterol is an anticipated by-product of the Atkins Induction phase. Dr. Atkins spoke of this in great detail. He also said levels will drop off dramatically after the initial spike.

    Mmmmmm, eggs!

    Re: Egg question!

The poor egg .. the fall guy for everything!!

    Truth be known:

Your body produces 80% of its own cholesterol. Which, by the way, is an essential part of being a healthy person. The other 20% is contributed by diet. If you cut back your dietary intake, your body just makes more to compensate for it.

The whole cholesterol debacle was created to sell DRUGS.

Don't get me started, but if you'd like some interesting reading on the subject, I'll be happy to provide you with the links.

Now, go eat your eggs. They are a powerhouse of great vitamins and minerals!

    Re: Egg question!

Hello... I'm Rick, and I'm an eggaholic...

Since I started doing low carb I can't go a day without eggs. *gasp* Some days I will have 5 or 6 eggs!!!! I am such an egg *****!!! (Is that correct for a guy to say?) The least I will have is two jumbo eggs in a day... I go in next week for blood tests, but my Dr. thinks I'll be doing great since my BP has dropped so much already. He says that even if my total cholesterol is up a bit I'm better off because I'm now off BP meds and a whole lot lower in weight than when I started, not to mention cardio health!!!!

I'd say that eggs are the least of our worries.
