SBD Salad dressing guidelines

Most people agree that the secret of a delicious salad is in the dressing. With that said, please be advised that many kinds of store bought dressings contain hidden sugars, which can set off cravings. So, it's important to do your own detective work and carefully read labels while shopping for salad dressings.

It's recommended that we choose a salad dressing with 3 grams of sugar or less per 2-tablespoon serving.

Be extra careful when reading the labels on low-fat or nonfat dressings, as these often contain added sugar to help improve the flavor. Also avoid varieties that contain trans fats (which will can be found on the Nutrition Facts list under Saturated Fats). A homemade dressing prepared with extra-virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar or lemon juice, Dijon mustard, garlic, and fresh herbs is a top choice! That way you're sure of what's in it.

Whether you make your own dressing or buy it from the store, be mindful of how much you use. Salad dressing is a concentrated source of calories and like nuts and olives, one of the few foods where it is suggested that your portion size be monitored. Use just a little, toss your salad and enjoy!

Another hint from a source I've forgotten:

Have your dressing on the side.
Dip your fork in the dressing, and then stab the salad with the fork.
You will get the flavour of the dressing without all the calories, etc. (and eat far less)

Re: SBD Salad dressing guidelines

That's a good idea.

I found that the South Beach Diet Italian dressing is very good and I don't normally like Italian. I haven't tried any of the other ones yet. Has anyone tried the SBD salad dressings?

I learned that years ago, and its a habit I've kept!

Sometimes I will put my portion of dressing on the salad and then stir in in and cut the salad up at the same time with a knife and fork, for some reason it feels like I'm eating more dressing that way, I guess cause it gets distributed better instead of all of it just sitting on top of the salad, it goes all the way thru.

Re: SBD Salad dressing guidelines

I only ask cause I've heard that if you observe thin people's eating habits you can actually learn little tricks. I've never actually tried it but its an interesting thought.

Re: SBD Salad dressing guidelines

Oh, I see.

I'd better not observe bf's eating habits any more then. And i'm definately not letting him fix my plate any more! Talk about large portions!!!

Yikes! I just realized that we've drifted off topic. Sorry!

LOL, yea plus, it has a lot to do with metabolism as well and age plays a factor so I dont' know how reliable that advice really is.
