Fallen down!

Help!

About 2 years ago I started low carb. For me it was simple. I was 205 and I was down to 155 in about 35 days. The weight dropped off. I started doing situps and riding my bike and I was getting muscular on top of a lean body. People were very impressed and I had people flocking to me for weight maintenance advice. I kept it off for well over a year. No cravings for sweets, I could easily turn down cake, pie, etc. I had it going on. Then one day I ate a brownie at a party, I figured what could it hurt. Then I ate another. Then little by little I had some Hershy kisses, then a few days later maybe a burger w/ bun. Then PB&J and pizza. You get the picture. Well, to make a long story short, two years later, I gained 20 pounds back. I'm 175. Now I know that's not a terrible weight for a guy 5'11" but the problem is, I can't seem to get back on low carb. Well, I mean I eat low carb, then I squeeze in so much sugary snacks/candy it defeats the purpose. Now I'm consuming fatty foods and sugar. Bad.
I've tried to use New Years, then my Birthday, then my son's Bday as mile stones to start again, however, I last about 4 days and then find myself buying a pack of strawberry twizzlers from the vending machine at work.

How do I get past this mental block? I know in about 20-30 days I could be right back to lean and fit.

Somebody please virtually kick my a**!

Thanks.

Re: Fallen down!

You want to be around for your son growing up, milestones like high school graduation, college, marriage, etc.

Keep eating sweets and fat, no matter how fit you are, your just packing in that arterial blockage. Heart attack and stroke, my friend, will be very real possibilities.

Okay, that's the mean me.

Here's a nicer one. Stock up on some sugar-free candies, temporarily, to fight those sweets munchies. When you overindulge on those, it gives most people BAAAAAAAAD diarrhea and/or cramps. Do that once, and you'll be cured.

Here's a nicer one.

KICK personally delivered to lancer's a**! What are you doing????? Stop it right now.

Given what you posted above, I'd say you have a serious sugar addiction, meaning the kind that takes place in the brain. It is a physical addiction you know. Do you WANT it to have so much power over you? Pathetic little white granules can subdue a a 5'11' male who weighs 175 lbs?

Or let's try this one:

lancer, come on. You need to THINK about what you really want. If you want to be able to eat that sweet stuff, maybe low carb isn't really what you want to do? I can hardly believe that, given all the amazing stuff you can eat on a WOL like Atkins.

Okay, I've got one more: have you tried making carb-neutral rules for yourelf about your eating? Like:
  • never eat unless hungry
  • if hungry, first eat a healthy snack or meal, then if still hungry, have some seconds, then wait 20 minutes and if still hungry have a little more
  • pack yourself beefsticks or jerky and some of those portable cheeses; when the twizzlers call your name, eat the meat/cheese instead.
And the last thing I"ve got -- have you tried using the L-Glutamine trick Atkins describes either in DANDR or Vitanutrient solution? For controlling sugar cravings? It's surely helping me a LOT. I don't notice it when I take it, but if I don't take it, I notice that I haven't taken it.

Okay, that's all I can come up with. I hope SOMETHING was helpful! lol
